Mattel’s ‘Wicked’ dolls packaging features porn site link; company issues apology

People soon posted pictures and videos online, highlighting the confusion. The dolls were introduced as a part of the promotional campaign for the musical fantasy movie Wicked, but the unintentional connection soon attracted a lot of attention.

In a statement shared on Sunday, Mattel acknowledged the issue and said, “Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the US, which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page.”

The statement further said, “We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this.” Mattel urged parents to be cautious, noting that the misprinted website was inappropriate for children. The company also advised customers who had already purchased the dolls to either discard or cover the incorrect link on the packaging.
