You might have seen a picture of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau locking lips with another politician Thomas Mulcair, leader of New Democratic Party. Apparently, the picture was circulated as the two “strongly” reacted to the recent Orlando shootings, wherein 49 people were killed in a gay nightclub.
Well, the picture is fake but many fell for it, including media organizations.
The report was first published in a satirical French website JournalDeMourreal, which was later carried by another satirical website World News Daily Report (WNDR) resulting in massive shares on social media. The story published in JournalDeMourreal and WNDR has already been shared 38,000 times and 47,000 times, respectively.
It’s interesting how their quotes were made up.
Mulcair was quoted as saying, “What happened in Orlando was so terrible, that we didn’t have a choice but to react strongly. Unfortunately, many people still have problems accepting the simple fact of seeing two men kissing each other, and that’s why this kind of gesture becomes so important. When Mr. Trudeau called me to suggest that we should kiss, I must admit that I hesitated a little. However, he quickly convinced me that it was a good idea! It was for a good cause, and to be honest, it was quite a kiss!”
Trudeau’s quoted response was, “After an event like this, we really had to react. I approached Tom to know what he thought, but I really didn’t expect such enthusiasm. I was already surprised when he accepted, and I want to thank him for sharing this moment with me. I must confess that I’m not used to kiss someone wearing the mustache and beard…but I think every men should try it at least once in their life.”
All said and done, you have to give it to them for their creativity on a point well made.
