The Korean couple was travelling to the Golden City in Jaisalmer
When most foreigners visit India, they don’t expect to be welcomed by locals in their own language — but a Korean couple recently got the surprise of a lifetime in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The travel vloggers had just arrived in the desert city when a heartwarming and unexpected interaction unfolded right at the tuk-tuk auto-rickshaw stand.
As the couple stepped off a bus and admired the line of auto-rickshaws, the man casually said in Korean, “These are all tuk-tuks.” To their amazement, one of the drivers instantly responded — not in Hindi or English, but in fluent Korean. “Not as many Koreans come here as they used to. Why?” the driver asked, catching them completely off guard. Smiling and surprised, they answered, “Yeah, why not?” The short exchange sparked a cheerful back-and-forth as the drivers explained, “Yeah, not since long. It’s been a long time since we saw one.”
Clearly impressed, the couple told them, “We’ll really recommend this place,” before continuing towards the Golden City. But the surprises didn’t stop there. Another tuk-tuk driver approached them soon after, again speaking Korean, and offered a ride. The couple politely declined, replying, “No, it’s okay, we are walking,” to which he nodded and replied in perfect Korean, showing he fully understood.
