The hopes of an entire village in Indonesia were deflated after an “angel” that a fisherman found floating on the sea turned out to be an inflatable sex toy.
Indonesian news portal Detik reported that villagers from the Banggai islands in Sulawesi province found so much faith in the doll that they even dressed it up in a hijab. But their trust in the divine arrival was shattered after police tracked down the doll and told them what it actually was.

Police had confiscated the doll after photos started circulating on social media about the “angel” and rumours started spreading that it was a “bidadari”, which locals believe is a type of angel or “spirit”. Police feared that such rumours would lead to social unrest in the region.
“They have no Internet, they don’t know what a sex toy is,” police chief Heru Pramukarno was quoted as saying by AFP. He added that the villagers believed that the doll was a “divine provenance” because it was found during the rare solar eclipse in March.
The doll is reportedly now in police custody.
