Australian woman criticises Indian food (Image source: @_FlipMan/X)With aromatic spices and diverse flavours, Indian food has been globally recognised on several occasions. From an Indian-origin contestant wooing MasterChef Australia judges with pani puris to a street vendor selling Amritsari naan in China, Indian dishes have redefined the global food scene. However, a recent post by Australian YouTuber Sydney Watson disapproved of Indian food, causing a stir on social media.
Sharing a picture of a scrumptious-looking spread, an X handle @FlipMan wrote, “Indian food is the best on earth. Fight me.” Watson ignited a debate as she disagreed with the post. “It really, really isn’t,” she wrote.
“If your food requires you to put dirt spices all over it in order for it to be palatable, your food is not good,” she wrote on X.

Watson’s criticism sparked outrage, leading to over 23 million views on her post. A user wrote, “I’m sat in my favourite Indian restaurant. You’re wrong.” Another user commented, “Sydney the type of person you don’t want to have dinner with.”
“Indian food is among the top tier cuisines of flavor sophistication, given the complexity of spices used in balance–each of which also happen to be medicinal in various ways,” a third user reacted. “There are atleast 5,000 different dishes one can try amongst Indian cuisine…the west has just tasted 10 at most,” another user wrote.
Last year, Croatian experiential travel online guide TasteAtlas ranked Indian Cuisine as the 11th best cuisine in the world based on dish and food product ratings.
