While some pointed out that the Diwali was last week, others said it was enough time to do a Google search to get facts right. People trolled him online for getting it right, finally on the third attempt.

While Indians around the world celebrated Diwali last week, US President Donald Trump lit a lamp at the White House a week later to mark the festival. However, in sharing the photos of the celebrations on Twitter, he made an error for which he got roasted online. An initial tweet from the @realDonaldTrump account dubbed the festival as “a holiday observed by Buddhists, Sikhs, and Jains”, and did not mention Hindus. The tweet also included a link that was broken. Coming under fire, the tweet was deleted shortly and a second tweet went out with only a workable link but no mention of Hindus, yet again.

“Today, we gathered for Diwali, a holiday observed by Buddhists, Sikhs, and Jains throughout the United States & around the world. Hundreds of millions of people have gathered with family & friends to light the Diya and to mark the beginning of a New Year,” the tweet read with a YouTube link to his speech delivered at the ceremony.

The photos tweeted by Trump had him lighting up a ceremonial lamp in the Roosevelt Room at the White House, surrounded by people from the Indian community who are part of the administration and various committees. However, instead of the joy that the festival was observed, some were miffed by his ignorance while others couldn’t stop taking a jibe at ‘Hindus for Trump’ who he conveniently forgot.

However, after hours of trolling, the POTUS did tweet mentioning the Hindus. Nevertheless, people still trolled him for taking three attempts and also slammed him for not attending the Veteran’s day event in France due to rain.
