According to Tom’s Traffic Index 2024, 76% of cities experienced a decrease in average speeds over the past year. This decline suggests that traffic congestion is primarily influenced by the complex interplay of static and dynamic factors.

The IT capital of India, Bengaluru, infamous for being the most congested, has seen an increase of 50 seconds from 2023 in the average time to cover 10 km, now standing at 34 minutes and 10 seconds—has surprisingly been overtaken by Kolkata, with the average time to cover 10 km being 34 minutes and 33 seconds.
Bengaluru’s traffic congestion is made worse by an increase in private automobiles, with over 2.5 million cars on the road—more than in New Delhi, with every day, 2,000 more vehicles are registered, putting further demand on the infrastructure. (Express Photo)
