Starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati has been embroiled in controversies for allegedly tampering with historical facts ever since the film was announced. However, the spat between the film-maker and the Rajput community took an ugly turn after a Karni Sena member threatened to chop off Padukone’s nose. It all started when she said in an interview that India has “regressed” as a nation. And, the Karni Sena member’s insensitive response to it has been drawing flak on all social media platforms.

Approving Sri Rajput Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi’s remark on the actor for allegedly portraying a demeaning image of Rajput women in Padmavati, a member of the organisation said if need be, action will be taken against her. Speaking to ANI, Mahipal Singh Makrana said, “Rajput Karni Sena is fighting to protect the image of women being portrayed in the films. We never raise a hand on women but if need be, we will do to Deepika what Lakshman did to Shurpanakha for violating the rules and culture of India.”

As soon as the news reached Padukone’s fans and followers on Twitter, they stood up in support for the 31-year-old actor and tweeted furiously against the Karni Sena member. The hashtag #IStandWithDeepika also started trending on the micro-blogging website. Here are some of the responses.
