This photograph has come to define the brutality of Brussels attack

At the time of the blast, Chaphekar was at the check-in in the departures area when the ceiling came crashing down.

This photograph taken inside the Brussels airport has come to define the brutality of the bomb blast that ripped through Zaventem airport in Belgium’s capital on March 22nd.

Her face covered in dust, with blood trickling down her face, the severely injured woman on the right wearing a yellow blazer has since been identified as 40-year-old Jet Airways staffer Nidhi Chaphekar from Mumbai. Chaphekar was one of the two flight attendants travelling with the airline, where she has been reportedly working for the past 15 years. A Jet Airways manager in Brussels said Chaphekar sustained over 15 per cent burns and was left with a fractured foot. She was declared out of danger.

At the time of the blast, Chaphekar was at the check-in in the departures area when the ceiling came crashing down. At least 30 people were killed and several dozens wounded in the attack.

The photograph, shot by reporter Ketevan Karadava for the Georgian Public Broadcaster Network, began trending on social media under the hashtag #PrayForNidhi. In fact, the picture was also featured on the front page of several foreign newspapers such as The Guardian and The New York Times.

Jet Airways in-flight supervisor Amit Motwani was also injured in the blast, who is being treated for injuries to his eye and ear.
