What is the simple purpose of a sign board? One would correctly imagine that it would be to put into practice the notion – a picture is worth a thousand words. Thus, making it easier for people understand instructions and gather information in a matter of a few moments. After all, it’s just one picture. But what if a sign board failed to even execute that singular function which defines its very existence and purpose? And what if it manages to actually further confuse the onlooker, who might spend several minutes attempting to decipher exactly what’s being depicted there?
Turns out, such cases aren’t as uncommon as one would assume, or even hope. From misspellings to misprints, a lot can go wrong in the world of road signs and billboards, sometimes prompting the most hilarious of reactions without even intending to. Take, for instance, this one mysterious sign that has gone viral on social media. Shared first on Reddit, this cryptic sign board – which is apparently located in Powai’s Hiranandani area in Mumbai – has had Netizens in splits over the past couple of days.
To be fair, it is not a simple one-image sign, and could be an attempt at public Pictionary. This amusing piece is a composite of three different images that people assume are to be read together. The first is of a man taking a leak – which it says is not allowed; the second is of two circles, out of which one has a rupee sign on it and a pair of scissors drawn alongside and an exclamation point (no clue what that means!); and the third has two opposite facing arrows (existential crisis?!).
This, we’re very sure, would even leave Prof Robert Langdon confused, and we’re mere mortals. Ever since the image was shared on Reddit, people have been trying to figure out what the designer of this sign wanted to convey, and some of the options are down-right hilarious!
