IIT Bombay launches its first MOOC courses on the edX platform

Registrations for the courses have started and over 35,000 learners worldwide have already registered.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has launched its first three Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on the edX platform, said an edX statement on Tuesday. The courses will be Introduction to Computer Programming, Part 1 and 2 and Thermodynamics.

Registrations for these courses have started and more than 35,000 learners worldwide have already registered for the three courses.

The Introduction to Programming Part 1, a six-week course, will start on July 29 and is corresponds to the first half of the Computer Programming course CS101 at IIT Bombay.

The Computer Programming Part 2 is also a six-week long course corresponds to the second half of the Computer Programming course CS101 of the institute and it starts from September 23.

The Thermodynamics which starts from July 29, is a 12-week long programme and is designed for students of mechanical engineering.

Students will have the option to either audit the course for free using online access to all course materials or pursue a Verified Certificate of Achievement for about Rs 1,500 or $25.

IIT Bombay had partnered edX, the online learning initiative founded by Harvard and MIT, last year.
