Beleaguered BlackBerry Ltd is likely to launch its new flagship smartphone the Blackberry Z30 on October 24 in India as the company battles to win back market share despite uncertainty around its future. The Blackberry Z30 may be priced below Rs 45,000.
BlackBerry Z30,also known as the A10 or A-Series under the codename ‘aristo’,was unveiled at an event in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia last month. As a new top-of-the-line device,Blackberry Z30 has taken the crown from the smaller Z10,which was launched early this year.
The BlackBerry Z30,which runs on the company’s latest 10 OS version 10.2,boasts a 5-inch display with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution,8 megapixel rear camera and 2 MP front camera. The device is powered by 1.7 gigahertz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and has a 2880 mAh capacity removable battery.
The smartphone has 2 GB of RAM and an internal memory of 16 GB that can be expanded to 64 GB with microSD card.
The BlackBerry Z30 will compete against the likes of Apple Inc’s new iPhone 5S – which will be launched in India on November 1 – and Samsung Galaxy S4,along with a slew of other devices that are powered by Google Inc’s Android platform.
Once a pioneer in the smartphone arena,BlackBerry Ltd had said last month it was weighing options that could include an outright sale,in the face of lacklustre sales for its new devices that run on the BlackBerry 10 operating system.
BlackBerry,which touts the Z30 as its ‘biggest,fastest and most advanced smartphone’ to date,however,faces an uphill battle in generating interest in the new phone given the lack of clarity around its future.
Although the new line of BlackBerry devices has been well received by reviewers,analysts say the company lacks the financial heft to vie against industry giants like Apple Inc,Google Inc,Samsung Electronics and Microsoft Corp,which boast massive marketing and R&D budgets.
