Here is the summary of the 7-day review of Mi 4i.
Xiaomi Mi 4i
Xiaomi VP Hugo Barra had said that they have spent 18 months to make the flagship Mi 4i. The product takes inspiration from the popular Google-LG Nexus 5 smartphone. “We wanted to create a compact smartphone which is comfortable to use and offers a great experience to the users like the Nexus 5,” said Barra.
Xiaomi aimed to make the Mi 4i as the most compact and handy 5-inch smartphone in market. Design-wise the Mi 4i can be easily differentiated from the crowd. The device feels good in the hands and fits perfectly. The Mi 4i follows Xiaomi’s trend of offering mid to high-end range specifications at affordable prices. This leads to only one question- Why did Xiaomi care to even launch the year-old Mi 4 smartphone in India earlier? May be it wanted to enter the Rs 20,000 market with its version of “metal and glass”.
What is good?
It goes without saying that the Mi 4i offers the best possible at Rs 12,999 in terms of design, display and battery. The device fits looks good and fits perfectly in the hands and in pockets. It comes with a bright and lively display. Sunlight Display takes care of outdoor visibility.
The minimum battery life you can expect from the Mi 4i is 24 hours- in both balance and performance mode. The device gets fully charged in little less than 2.5 hours. The camera is good but it’s not the fastest. You will have to be a bit patient while focusing on a subject. However, HDR and dual-tone LED Flash will make you fall for the Mi 4i.
The device is smooth, you will hardly encounter any lags or regular performance issues, even if the RAM availability is less. Running on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop OS with MiUI 6 skin on top, the device offers everything you need out-of-the-box.
MiUI 6 offers a great user experience, however, it will take time to get used to. If you manage to get a tutorial of MiUI 6, do pay attention to it. Also, you will save a lot of mobile Internet data by restricting individual apps from feasting on it.
What is not that good?
No microSD card slot. Xiaomi believes that microSD cards hamper the efficiency of a smartphone. To prevent this, none of its flagship devices come with a microSD card slot. Users get around 10GB of storage with USB OTG support. The device tends to get warm but there is no compromise on performance no matter how much it may get heated. The external speakers are not loud enough.
Should you buy it?
At Rs 12,999, the Mi 4i is undoubtedly a good buy.
