V-Moda’s flagship over-ear model, the Crossfade M-100, is still one of the best overall headphones when it comes to choosing great sound, design and performance as a package. But with competition from premium wireless headphones like Beats Studio Wireless and Sennheiser Momentum, V-Moda has launched the Crossfade Wireless.
V-Moda Crossfade Wireless
V-Moda Crossfade Wireless is basically a Crossfade M-100 that works without wires, but the company has taken care to fix some of the long standing issues with wireless headphones. In order to match premium wired headphones, V-Moda has tuned the sound amplifiers to reduce latency and make it sound like wired ones.
The V-Moda Crossfade Wireless has a design similar to Crossfade M-100, but now houses a rechargeable battery in the left ear cup. So is V-Moda Crossfade Wireless the one you should choose while looking for a premium wireless headphone?
Let us break that down for you:
Price: Rs 24,990
What is good?
The moment you take the V-Moda Crossfade Wireless out of the box, you will see how well built it is. It uses metal parts and its Steelflex headband is arguably one of the most comfortable I have ever tried.
As one would expect from any V-Moda, the Crossfade Wireless can be customised with 3D printed shields and paired with BoomPro Mic for gaming. If options are anything of an indicator, V-Moda Crossfade Wireless has just no other match.
V-Moda Crossfade Wireless’ selling point is not just the design, but the Crossfade sound. I listen to music with lot of vocals and V-Moda Crossfade Wireless sounded extremely natural most of the time. Even the bass and treble were more in line with premium wired headphones.
What if you are into instruments? V-Moda Crossfade Wireless can leave you mesmerised. Play tambourine on this one and you will understand what it means to get lost in the music. One common issue with Bluetooth headphones is the latency but V-Moda has reduced it to great extent.
In a nutshell, V-Moda Crossfade Wireless offers natural midrange and rich beats – a V-Moda trademark. It excels in pure instruments while keeping the latency low.
The wireless headphone can transform from wireless to wired instantaneously. Connect the supplied wire and V-Moda turns off all the electronics to make it completely analog. Everything you hear now has more clarity and more bass. In general, there is more depth than listening with that Bluetooth on.
Another plus about V-Moda Crossfade Wireless is its battery life and range. V-Moda Crossfade Wireless easily lasts for 12 hours and when it is dead, it is still usable as a wired headphone. The Bluetooth works reliably and I never once had it getting disconnected.
What is not good?
Since V-Moda Crossfade Wireless is a Bluetooth-enabled headphone, it also serves the purpose for phone calls. It shows its weakness there. While on calls, I could hear my own voice inside the headphone.
The reason for this is pretty simple too – V-Moda Crossfade Wireless doesn’t have dual microphones.
V-Moda Crossfade Wireless weighs 292 grams and isn’t light by any means.
Should you buy?
V-Moda Crossfade Wireless may not be the best V-Moda ever built, but is surely one of the best wireless over-ear headphones out there. If you are inclined towards music that has more vocals, V-Moda Crossfade Wireless can be a good option.
It sounds natural with most audio types but it is not the best when it comes to telephonic calls over Bluetooth. Lack of dual microphones definitely hurts.
To put it simply, if you are looking for a premium wireless headphone then V-Moda Crossfade Wireless should definitely be in your shortlist.
