It is often a hassle managing headphones if you are working out or jogging. They are constantly falling off, getting drenched in sweat or have cords that are frustrating to say the least. This is why there are a whole lot of headphones and earphones meant primarily for those who have active uses for them. The latest in this series is the Sennheiser PMX 686G Sports.
Sennheiser PMX 686G Sports
The Sennheiser PMX 686G Sports is a neckband headset meant to be worn while your are working out or just being plain active. It comes in fluorescent colours as is all the rage these days and can also let you take and make calls.
The Sennheiser PMX 686G Sports has a very durable design. There is no ambiguity here on whether this one can handle the pressures of a rugged users. It will have no issues if you are tossing it around with a sprint or sweating profusely after it.
The neckband really holds the ear plugs in place. But I am not sure you can all be comfortable. I would have prefered it with a pair of silicone tips to make it softer on the ear. Also, when you are sprinting there is just enough gap between the earphones and the ear to create a whizzing sound that muffles the audio a bit.
However, the oval cable is easier to manage and does not get tangled.
The audio quality is good and robust. It works really well for peppy numbers that you might want to hear during an early morning jog in the park. And if you want to use it for meditation soon after, it is pretty much up to the task. The PMX 686G seems slightly biased in favour of bass but it is not overpowering.
However, if you are on the move you will need to up the volume a bit as this does not really keep the noise out. Plus, the remote seemed to skip songs every time I pressed it to increase or reduce volume on an Android phone.
The audio quality while making calls is also good. And since the remote is right next to your face the caller on the other side has no issues understanding the conversation.
If you are looking for high quality audio to support an active lifestyle, the PMX 686G seems like a good option at the moment. If only Sennheiser had made it a bit more comfortable to wear for long hours. This is why the Sennheiser PMX 686G Sports seems a bit overpriced at the moment.
