I have been a fan of Sennheiser Momentum headphones from when the first version was launched a couple of years back. Now there is an all-new wireless version of this bit of audio luxury. But not all audiophiles are okay with wireless due to the fears that there will be some loss in quality at the end of the day. Can the Sennheiser Momentum Wireless put paid to these fears?
Sennheiser Momentum Wireless Over-Ear
Let’s get one thing clear. This is not for people who will crib about the price tag and suggest something that costs a fraction can also do the job. From my experience, I can tell you that Sennheiser is not in the can-do-the-job business, it is the how-best-to-do-the-job business. This headphone is pure luxury and luxury does come at a price.
The Momentum Wireless set has more than its share of steel and leather. The soft leather ear cups feel comforting and don’t irritate you even after long hours. The controls — power and volume — are on the left cup, while the right one has the NFC spot. There is an extra cable in the box in case you want to go wired.
Price: Rs 34,990
What is good?
Let’s start with the music and let me tell you it is top notch. There was not a note amiss, and there were too many I hadn’t heard before. The depth and richness of the sound made me double check if I had not plugged the cables by mistake. This quality on wireless should be able to make it more acceptable to audiophiles.
I tried a variety of genres from Rabindra Sangeet to pure instrumental and loved every bit of it — yes, I know I have started to sound a bit like a fanboi. But it is only when you listen to Tagore’s Anandadhara on the Momentum that you realise what they mean by pure bliss.
The audio reproduction is so natural that at time it felt like the music was coming from outside the earcups. The experience is so spatial that the music does not feel overpowering even at high volumes.
The NFC works seamlessly, so does the Bluetooth pairing. There is not struggle using the headphone wirelessly.
What is not good?
I really couldn’t find any flaws with the Sennheiser Momentum.
Should you buy?
Of course, if you think your music is priceless. This is as good as it gets and you shouldn’t really mind the price tag. If you value the experience then this is worth every penny. It works with all kinds of music and is good for both smartphones and high-end music systems with the cord. You don’t need to think much.
