Bose has been upgrading its portfolio with one wireless device after the other. The latest is the most Bose SoundTouch 10, the most affordable in the series. SoundTouch series seems to be winding up to woo a lot of Indian users who would have otherwise looked for cheaper options. It also comes equipped to take on the challenges of the smartphone generation.
Bose SoundTouch 10
Price: Rs 19,013
The Bose SoundTouch 10 is compact and will gell easily into any surrounding, from the sober to the funky. It comes in the two stylish colour options, but Bose the silver and black options stick to what you would expect from a Bose. The controls are all on top and easy to access. There is also a handy remote that does most of the controls.
But don’t think much of the remote as you will control it primarily using the smartphone or tablet that will be used to stream the music from. I used an iPad and iPhone as well as a mid-range HTC phone and connecting was not an issue at all.
But what sets the Bose SoundTouch system from other Bluetooth speakers is the SoundTouch app that integrates it to become part of a larger network of devices. So you could have multiple SoundTouch devices in different parts of the home all tapping into the source. Setting up the device to be part of your Wi-Fi, so that it can play from any device that is logged into you SoundTouch account, can take a few minutes. It is not that easy, but thankfully Bose has bypasses in place for the hurdles you might encounter.
Once this is done, however, you have much more control on the device. And you can preset up to six Internet radio stations, or music sources like iTunes or aux, to play at a single touch without any configuration needed. Bose should try and make this a bit more easy as not everyone will understand this set up.
The audio quality is top notch and certainly one of the best when you talk about Bluetooth speakers that you can afford. Given that you can add multiple SoundTouch devices to the network, you have the possibility of boosting the audio quality by many notches. I have been reviewing Bose devices and headphones for many years now and am convinced that Amar Bose was a lover of ghazals, for there is no other music system that gives its due to this vocal-first genre. I was first bowled over listening to a Bose music system almost two decades ago playing the silken voice of Jagjit Singh. I am as fascinated now, many generation of devices later.
My only grouse is that from there doesn’t seem to be a jump in audio quality from the earlier generation. Maybe the pinnacle of sound perfection has already been reached.
The Bose SoundTouch 10 is one of the best Bluetooth systems you can buy at the moment, especially since this is now cheaper than some of good headphones from the company. There are other superior Bluetooth devices in the market now since luxury brands like Bang & Olufsen are taking India seriously, but Bose still commands respect here. The SoundTouch 10 only furthers this aura.
