While Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Irrfan Khan starrer Jazbaa is set to release on October 9, a new smartphone brand called M-Tech will launch its Jazbaa smartphone on October 5. The device would be launched in the presence of Jazbaa movie team and the company is eyeing PR mileage by naming it’s first smartphone after the movie itself.
But does this kind of gimmick really help? For the PR team, its a great move. For buyers, the decision is solely based on quality and performance of the device.
In the past, we have seen several smartphone brands including Samsung, Micromax, HTC and Asus invite film stars to launch their respective smartphones. Samsung recently had parterned with Marvel for its Iron Man Edition Galaxy S6 Edge. Samsung even managed to sell a limited edition unit to a Chinese bidder for £58,000 or over Rs 57 lakhs. LG tried to woo buyers with its flagship G4 signed by the legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan. Karbonn had announced a Rajnikanth starrer Kochadaiiyaan themed smartphone earlier.
While it is totally the brand’s choice when it comes to hosting a launch event, the end -user are more worried about the samrtphone, its price and after sales support. They are seriously not bothered about gimmicks like “For the first time in India, a mobile brand is launching its smartphone on the name of a movie.”
On the other end, the buyers are well read and are capable of taking matured decisions. This is what makes the Indian smartphone market so competitive. After following this trend for quite sometime, we can safely say smartphones won’t sell because it shares a Bollywood movie name.
So, while it is really great to welcome a new smartphone brands in the country, let’s limit the talk to tech. Meanwhile, M-Tech management team should be praying for the success of Jazbaa by now.
