Uber, the popular ride-hailing service, has announced that teenagers in India can now sign up on the app by directly linking their accounts to a parent of guardian. The company also extended Uber One membership benefits to teens, enabling both parents and children to get the same perks and cashback that are accumulated in the family member hub.

Part of the Uber’s broader set of enhancements for Uber Teens and Family feature, the company says the new self-onboarding process gives teens the independence to manage their own account while parental retain full visibility and control. Parents will also have complete oversight of teen trips and activities on the app.

Talking about the new features, Shiva Shailendran, Director of Consumer Growth, Uber India and South Asia, said, “We understand that every family is different, and the needs within a household can vary widely. Teens today are far more independent, and we wanted to give them the flexibility to manage their own Uber accounts in a safe and supervised way, with approval from their guardians. At the same time, we are making it easier for families to stay connected on the platform and ensure that everyone, from teens to seniors, can travel comfortably and confidently.”

The ride-hailing app also made it easier to earn more rewards for families by removing the need for a shared payment method, meaning users can now create a family profile without having to pay using a common credit card and allowing everyone to use their own.

For senior citizens, Uber has introduced a new Senior profile where guardians can track rides, request trips, and manage saved places. Also, when a senior citizen is using the app, it will switch to a simplistic layout where the text appears larger and buttons are fewer.
