Reliance Jio has reportedly begun its JioFiber trials in Chennai. Reliance Jio Infcocomm has started sending out invites to residents of various societies to be a part of the ultra-fast fiber home broadband tests. The invite was posted by users on Facebook, and it reads like this, “At Jio we are really excited about introducing this amazing service and making your Society one of the first in India to Go Digital with our Ultra-Fast Broadband service.”
Reliance Jio will make use of basements near shaft or duct areas to put its JioFiber in place. The invite contains a chart that compares time taken to perform various tasks such as download photos, songs etc; on current broadband speeds with Jio’s Ultra-Fast Broadband at 100-Mbps.
According to the chart, it takes about an hour to download 100 photos (500MB) on current speeds of 1 Mbps and approximately 1 minute on Jio’s network. Time taken to download 100 songs (1GB) on existing speeds is 2 hours as compared to about 2 minutes with Jio’s speeds. Plus, the company claims True HD movies (5GB) will be downloaded in about 7 minutes on Jio’s network.
Another Facebook user posted a picture of speed test of JioFiber testing. The screenshot shows download speeds of 743.28 Mbps and upload speeds of 73.22 Mbps. RIL started its home broadband services based on fibre to the home (FTTH) wired network early September.

The company had given a brief update on upcoming Reliance JioFiber service at its annual shareholders’ meeting on September 1. While the service is expected to roll out sometime later this year, the company Chairman Mukesh Ambani already targets 100 million wireless broadband customers. Ambani at his AGM address said company laid more than 2.5 lakh kilometres of fibre-optic cables, covering 18,000 cities and over one lakh villages. The company aims to cover entire population of the country by the end of 2018.
Reliance Jio 4G services were rolled out with company’s ‘welcome offer’ for prepaid and postpaid users. The company is not charging users for its 4G data till December 31, 2016. All voice calls charges and roaming charges within India have been dropped for Jio users. Post completion of Jio ‘welcome offer’, users will be charged as per data tariffs laid out by the company. The Reliance Jio SIM card is available across Reliance Digital stores and Xpress Mini stores.
