Netflix has announced a new tool to help its users better control ther data use when streaming on cellular networks. Netflix says the new feature is based on study of various streaming habits and kinds of mobile data plans used.
Netflix’s default setting will allow users to stream about three hours of TV shows and movies per gigabyte of data. Netflix that translates to 600 kilobits per second. Netflix claims this setting offers good video quality with lower data use on cellular networks.
For those with a higher data cap, Netflix has added option to stream content at higher bitrate. In a blog post, Netflix said, “Our goal is to give you more control and greater choice in managing your data usage whether you’re on an unlimited mobile plan or one that’s more restrictive.”
