The mobile ticket purchases around the globe will be more than doubled by 2020, claims a latest report by Juniper research. It says that nearly 23 billion tickets will be booked using mobile handsets which is double the number of tickets expected to be booked till the end of 2016.
Another research by Juniper in 2015 had pointed out that the app-based ticket booking was increasing at 50 per cent for the airlines industry.
The advent of integrating payment services and app services by transport agencies has seen a rapid surge of mobile ticketing in last 12 months, says research.
“While app-based ticketing user adoption continues to be strong across a range of ticketing markets, sales volume growth will be driven by low-value metro and bus ticket purchases, most notably in the US market,” said research author Nitin Bhas.
However, it also mentions that for further growth, there is a need for additional services that offer a content-rich experience to the users.
