Microsoft has posted video showing how bad the Chrome browser performs in battery rundown test. Google has already accepted the fact that its Chrome browser consumes much more resources on a laptop than other browsers. The search giant even promised to fix the flaws with Chrome.
Microsoft has now posted a video attacking Google’s Chrome browser, to prove Chrome significantly drains battery. Microsoft is running the test by streaming a video on four identical laptops (Microsoft Surface Book) running four different browsers.
The video shows Chrome lasting just 4 hours, 19 minutes and 50 seconds while Edge lasts the longest at 7 hours, 22 minutes and 7 seconds. Microsoft Surface Book running Edge lasted 70 per cent longer than the Surface Book running Chrome.
The Surface Book running Firefox lasted 5 hours, 9 minutes and 30 seconds while Surface Book with Opera died after 6 hours, 18 minutes and 33 seconds. The video description notes that battery saver was enabled in Opera desktop browser.
Microsoft has also power consumption data which shows Edge is less power hungry than Chrome. While that might be a significant pitch to market Edge as a great browser, Chrome still commands over 50 per cent market share. According to Netmarketshare, Microsoft Edge has just 4.46 per cent share in the browser market.
