Apple Maps could go cross-platform starting with web browsers, says a report on Apple Insider. The rumours about Apple Maps are based on an advertisement by the company for a “Maps JavaScript Engineer”, says the AppleInsider report.

The ad is looking for a “Web technology expert to ‘help make maps work seamlessly on the web.'” The report adds that Web-based Apple Maps means it could work on Windows 10 as well.

With Apple Maps, the company does not really have a hit product and it has faced criticism given how inaccurate the app has proven.

More recently, Apple bought out Coherent Navigation, a global positioning company. Apple’s acquisition of the 2008-founded start-up is significant as it could help boost Apple Maps. Coherent’s systems are much more precise than the “consumer-grade” GPS as it relies on data from ‘mid-earth orbit GPS satellites.’

While it is not clear how Coherent will fit into the Apple Maps universe,  from the latest reports it looks like Apple Maps could undergo some radical changes.
