Google has announced the launch of a program in partnership with Udacity to offer Android Nanodegrees in India. The program is aimed to transform India into a hub of high-quality mobile developers for global and local apps.

The newly annnounced program is an education credential designed to help developers learn new skills and thus advance their careers. As a part of the program, 1,000 scholarships will be offered to deserving students by Google and Tata Trusts.

With 3 million software developers, India is currently the second largest developer population in the world and is poised to become no.1 developer population by 2018 with 4 million developers. Google aims to help India become a global leader in mobile app development by providing easier and affordable educational program to Indian developers.

While India has millions of software developers, we still lag behind in creating world-class apps. With the launch of this program we want to bridge the gap by providing India’s developer community an easy access to learn and build high quality apps for the world,” said Rajan Anandan, VP & Managing Director, Google South East Asia & India.

We are excited to be launching Udacity in India today and honored to be partnering with Google and Tata Trusts as we bring our Nanodegrees to millions of people in India,” said Sebastian Thrun, founder and CEO, Udacity.

The Udacity Android Nanodegree program will comprise of courses developed and taught by instructors from the Google Developers Relations team. The program will include project reviews, mentorship and career services from Udacity.

The enrollment for Udacity Android Nanodegree program is open right now and duration of the course will be around 6 to 9 months. The program will cost Rs 9,800 per month with Udacity refunding 50 percent of the tuition fees upon course completion. Google says the curriculum will be updated regularly with new releases and will host a career summit for top thirty graduates from the program in Bangalore by end of this year.
