Asus unveiled over 10 new products ahead of the annual Computex technology conference in Taipei, including a new Zenbo robot for home assistance and entertainment. Asus also launched its new Zenfone 3 smartphones series, which will come in 3 versions: Zenfone 3, Zenfone 3 Delux and Ultra.
The new laptop unveiled is ZenBook 3 and there are three new 2-in-1s: Transformer 3, Transformer 3 Pro and Transformer Mini.
Asus Chairman Jonney Shih said during the launch that the Zenbo robot is their effort at ensuring “robotic computing for every household.”
Zenbo is a home robot designed to provide assistance, entertainment, and companionship to families. It will compete with products like Google’s newly launched Google Home assistant, Amazon’s Echo which is powered by the smart assistant Alexa, except that unlike the other two this one can move around the house.
Zenbo also has its own display where it can showcase stories, alerts, reminders, etc and can talk to the consumer in spoken language.
Asus has also enabled Zenbo to conduct some specific functions like assist senior family members with doctor’s appointments, medication and exercise schedules.
Like other assistants, Zenbo will speak to the consumer reminding them of appointments including doctor’s appointments, medication and exercise schedules. The robot will also monitor the home for Zenbo emergency situations — such as falls, even break-ins — and immediately respond to them by notifying specified family members on phone.
When they receive an emergency notification, family members can remotely control Zenbo to move nearby and use Zenbo’s built-in camera to visually check on their loved one.
Zenbo can also make video calls, use social media, shop, etc via voice commands.
The robot can connect to and control many smart home and traditional devices, including lights, TVs, air conditioners, and more. Homeowners can even use Zenbo’s built-in screen to view visitors at the door and then unlock it with a simple voice command.
Asus is launching a new Zenbo Developer Program to provides members access to the Zenbo SDK to help developers create apps for the robots.
