Airbnb, the US based startup which specialises in home sharing, has announced its India growth tripled in the last year. Airbnb has transformed from a technology company to hospitality company.
Airbnb says India is one of the fastest growing markets in the world for them. It believes India’s travel market is set to surpass $40 billion by 2020, and the company is banking on its India prospects for future growth.
Airbnb operates in 190 countries, and says that its biggest USP in India is familiarity. According to the company, travelers who have experienced its platform elsewhere, are coming back to use it here in India too.
“Countries across the world continue to embrace home sharing and we are excited that India is at the forefront of this movement,” said Nathan Blecharczyk, Co-founder and CTO.
Airbnb claims that it has hosted more than 80 million guests since its debut in 2008, and has over two million listings.
Airbnb is also confident that India’s tourism ministry could soon review norms with regard to home sharing in India. The company says the ministry had indicated the same in April.
