Twitter, now rebranded as X, has been making news for all sorts of reasons in the last few days. While many are wondering what prompted Elon Musk to replace the blue bird logo, the platform seems to have quietly released a new feature that lets Twitter Blue (verified) users download videos without having to resort to a third-party tool.

According to a Twitter support page, videos uploaded to the platform after July 25 will be downloadable by Verified Users unless the uploader has opted out. Users can choose to not let others download their video by disabling the ‘Allow video to be downloaded’ option, which can be accessed by clicking on the ‘Edit’ button in the bottom right of the screen after adding a video to a tweet.

If you disable downloads for your video, other users won’t be able to directly share videos to third-party platforms but can share a link to the tweet.

Twitter has also applied some age restrictions, with the video download setting automatically turned off and unavailable for users who are under 18 years of age.

In case your Tweets are protected, only your followers will be able to view the video. However, they may be able to download or re-share links to protected tweets since links to videos shared on Twitter are not protected and anyone with the link will be able to view the content. This means if you don’t want anyone to see your videos on the platform, you will have to delete the tweet.

How to download a video from Twitter

To download a video, simply tap on the three-dot menu in the top right corner and tap on the ‘Download Video’ option. Twitter says the feature is currently available for those on the iOS version of the app, but support for Android and the web version is coming soon.
