Nike delivered the first pair to Marty Seamus, aka Michael J Fox, who played the lead role in the hit film series and is by far the ‘most celebrated wearer’ of these shoes.

To put things in context, yesterday was ‘Back to the Future Day,’ when in the second BTTF film Marty McFly and Doc Brown arrive in the year 2015 on October 21.

In the movie, which imagined how future lives would change drastically in the year 2015, Marty has sneakers with self-tying power laces called the Nike Mag.

Nike, President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Parker said in a press statement, “We started creating something for fiction and we turned it into fact, inventing a new technology that will benefit all athletes.”

According to ABC, Nike had filed a patent for a ‘power lace’ this year and in 2009 a patent for “Automatic Lacing System.” Nike had launched a version of the Nike Mag in 2011, but those didn’t come with self-tying laces.

The 2015 Nike Mag will be available only via auction for this year. Nike plans to make more of these ‘Back to the Future’ shoes available in stores by 2016.
