TechCrunch quotes Director Of Product Management Peter Martinazz as saying that on Messenger sharing of photos is really popular. Martinazz told TechCrunch that over 9.5 billion photos were shared last month alone.

The new feature is obviously aimed at boosting this photo sharing. Facebook had recently launched a separate app called Moments, which would allow for private sharing of photos. Now Facebook is giving photo-sharing a boost with this new feature on Messenger it seems.

Facebook’s Messenger is already one of the most popular apps and has crossed 1 billion downloads. Messenger will also expand into full-fledged platform as Facebook had revealed at its developer conference this year and is all set to get its own voice-assistant called M.
