Yu Televentures has officially launched its 2016 flagship, the Yunicorn, exclusively on Flipkart at Rs 12,999. The smartphone with its metal unibody design looks like a supercharged version of Micromax Canvas 6 Pro, but way cheaper.
Yu Yunicorn will be available at that price only for the first month after which the price will go up to Rs 13,499. Rahul Sharma continues to push the envelope on price, at least how he announces it.
Yu Yunicorn will compete directly against Micromax Canvas 6 Pro and at that aggressive pricing, Yu proves it couldn’t really hit the market with a premium priced smartphone last time.
Yu Yunicorn uses aluminium unibody metal mixed with magnesium which Yu claims won’t die out over time. The smartphone is powered by MediaTek Helio P10 processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage.
Yu Yunicorn comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD display and supports Miravision 2.0. Yu Yunicorn is, however, not about the specs, it is more about the software.
At the launch, Yu co-founder, Rahul Sharma said, “We have been about software from the start and our flagship redefined is also primarily about software.”
Yu Yunicorn runs custom version of Android 5.1 Lollipop is called “Android on Steroids”. Yes, Yu actually chose a cliche for its operating system. But then cliches do work in India. Yu Yunicorn comes with an alphabetically organised app drawer as opposed to a scroll-based app drawer in most other smartphones.
Yu co-founder Rahul Sharma also announced ‘Around Yu 2.0’, company’s software that aggregates services from different providers. Around YU 2.0 now has access to doctors on demand. The company says this allow people at remote locations interact with doctors over video calls but again it will highly depend on the network connection that you are locked in to.
Around Yu also comes with an integrated wallet UDIO which makes cab bookings effortless. Yu Yunicorn comes with a large 4000mAh battery packed in an 8.1 mm frame.
