Xiaomi Black Shark Helo has been launched, the company’s latest smartphone targeted at mobile gamers. The Black Shark Helo succeeds the Black Shark, which was released in China last year. The new model is powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor and features up to 10GB RAM, becoming the first phone in the world to have such onboard memory.
At the moment, Xiaomi Black Shark Helo is only available in China where it starts shipping on October 30. The base model, priced at 3199 yuan (or approx Rs 33,791) comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage and 3499 yuan (or approx Rs 36,978) for the variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. There’s no word on pricing for the 10GB RAM and 256GB storage model.
In terms of specifications, Xiaomi Black Shark Helo is a beast. It is powered by a Snapdragon 845 processor coupled with either 6 or 8 or 10GB RAM. It comes in two storage options: 128GB and 256GB. A 4,000mAh battery resides inside which can be fast charged at 18W. The phone sports a 6.1-inch AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. HDR support is also there. It has also got a 12MP+20MP rear cameras, and a 20MP front-facing snapper.
Since the Black Shark Helo is a dedicated gaming smartphone, it comes with something called as Game Studio feature which lets you tweak the processor, display and other aspects of a phone while playing games. Then there’s RGB lights on the sides of a gaming phone, as well as ‘S’ logo on the hack of the device. Plus, the handset has dual speakers for immersive audio. The device also comes with two gamepad attachments for either side of the phone.
Xiaomi isn’t alone launching a dedicated-gaming smartphone in the market. There’s a growing trend among companies to launch gaming-centric phones in a quest to appeal to a large number of mobile gamers. Earlier this month, both Razer and Huawei had launched premium phones optimised for mobile games. Asus too offers a gaming smartphone in the form of ROG Phone.
