Sony is likely to launch few Android smartphones at IFA 2016 and the company has revealed two devices ahead of the actual launch. It seems Xperia XZ and X Compact will be two new smartphones from Sony at IFA.

With the new leak, it becomes clear that Sony is ditching the Z naming in favour of X. Sony Xperia X Compact, spotted on company website by Techtastic, follows on the concept of Z Compact. Sony Xperia X Compact is likely to feature a 4.6 or 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Further the report suggests that Xperia X and XZ will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 or 821 SoC.

Sony is likely to add waterproofing and dust proofing capability to both Xperia XZ and X Compact. The new Xperia X Compact and XZ will also feature USB- C port for charging and support quick charging technology.

The rumoured device launch has been strengthened with further information from Twitter user Evan Blass. Evan Blass has tweeted a picture which he claims is the Xperia X Compact. The picture shows a device closely resembling the Xperia X in terms of design. The picture also shows smartphone supporting NFC, which has now come as a standard on most Sony devices. It is likely running Android 6.0 Marshmallow since LG is launching the first Android 7.0 Nougat smartphone on September 6.

Sony’s smartphone business has been struggling against competition from Samsung’s flagship Galaxy range and budget handsets from Chinese manufacturers. Sony would try and make a bounce back with its new Xperia range.
