Samsung could introduce a floating keyboard within the Samsung Keyboard app, XDA Developers has reported. The feature has been spotted on Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9, slated to be the first devices from the South Korean company to support Android Pie beta and expected to get updates early next year.

Samsung had confirmed that the Galaxy Note 9, Note 8, Galaxy S9/S9+ and Galaxy S8/S8+ will receive the Android Pie update. For the same, the company has been developing Experience 10 UI, to integrate more features from the latest iteration of Android. With larger screen sizes, as seen by the Note series, Samsung users have been reporting issues with the keyboard, as well as single-hand operation. In the report, XDA Developers has shared screenshots of the setting, which appear when a user tries to alter the keyboard size on a messaging app, or during searches.

Previous versions of keyboard did have the floating keyboard option, as seen on Galaxy S5. Given the size of the phone, which bears a 5.1-inch display, and its low popularity, Samsung discontinued the feature. Besides this, the company could also be expected to make the keyboard layout simpler, while offering more emojis, an improved toolbar, as well as customisable themes.

The Android Pie beta for Samsung’s phones had been spotted initially through a Dark theme, that represented the upcoming Experience 10 UI. The user interface is expected to add screen-based gestures, as well as Daily wellbeing options to its phones. Similar changes could also be seen in Night mode, that will be updated in future Android Pie beta versions.
