OnePlus 6T is the upgraded flagship phone from the company, and it will start at a price of Rs 37,999 in India. The 6T sports an in-display fingerprint scanner, a waterdrop-style notch on the front and improved low-light performance thanks to a new Nightscape mode. The phone also ditches the 3.5mm headphone jack. Here’s a quick look at some features of the OnePlus 6T.
OnePlus 6T Screen Unlock: How does it work?
Inside the display of the OnePlus 6T, there is an optical fingerprint module with a small lens that registers the fingerprint when a user presses down on the glass cover. OnePlus says it has relied on a combination of software and hardware to make this feature very accurate. The company is also claiming that Screen Unlock will learn to recognise the user’s fingerprint with higher accuracy with extended use overtime.
In an earlier blog post, CEO Pete Lau had explained that the company had tried to implement the feature on the OnePlus 5T, but it struggled with accuracy.
OnePlus 6T Screen Unlock: Does it work with a screen guard on the device?
OnePlus says using a screen guard or a tempered glass on your 6T’s display for extra protection should not impact the Screen Unlock feature. However, the company is only recommending official OnePlus Screen Protectors. Further if a user applies or reapplies a screen guard, they have to register the fingerprint once again.

OnePlus 6T Screen Unlock: Does it work with cracked, damaged display?
While minor scratches on the display and even small cracks will not impact Screen Unlock, in case of major damage to the display, there could be issues. A user will have to contact the OnePlus customer service to fix the problem.
OnePlus 6T Screen Unlock: Can it be used for other functions?
The feature can also be used to quick launch apps. A user just has to continue pressing the screen after the display is unlocked. A customizable app shortcut bar will appear. After that they can just move the finger over their preferred app and swipe up to launch.
OnePlus 6T display: What about the notch?
Yes, the notch is still there on the OnePlus 6T, but it is now smaller with a water-drop design. OnePlus 6T has a bigger 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED display and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The company insists the notch now occupies minimal. The notch has the three-in-one ambient/distance/RGB sensor and the front-facing 16MP camera placed inside.
However, the notch does not have the LED notification light anymore. OnePlus says the reason they removed the LED notification is because it is no longer required. The notifications can be seen on the lock screen when users pick up their phone.
Users still have the option of hiding the notch by going to Settings > Display > Notch Display > Hide the notch area.
OnePlus 6T: Where’s that 3.5mm headphone jack?
This is an important question in the Android universe. Let’s not forget how Android OEMs had mocked Apple for ditching the headphone jack in 2016 with the iPhone 7. Now in 2018, most of them have followed suite. OnePlus too had made a big deal about how they would keep the headphone jack on the OnePlus 6.
With the 6T all of that has changed. Goodbye headphone jack. So why did OnePlus kill the headphone jack? Because removing the headphone jack allowed them to install a bigger battery (3700 mAh), which was a key demand of their customers, according to the company.
OnePlus is bundling a Type-C USB to 3.5 mm headphone adapter in the box for those who still prefer to use their older headphones.
OnePlus 6T: What is this Nightscape mode?
Nightscape is a special mode for improving low-light photos, but it does have slow processing time. This is because it takes up to 10 multi-frame shots with high dynamic range and 2 second exposure time in this mode, which are then stacked together to create one image.
To put it simply, OnePlus 6T is combining a number of images at various exposure levels together in this night mode and giving the best result, which is brighter with more details. This also makes the processing time is a bit longer than auto-mode shots.
Keep in mind that OnePlus 6T is only doing this in Nightscape mode. The regular auto-mode does not rely on this combining of images. OnePlus had said that the new Nightscape mode is designed to capture high-dynamic range, low light landscape and static shots with improved clarity and less noise.
