You can go for the 730 if you want a fab camera at the cost of having very few apps and a Windows UI.

Nokia-Lumia-730 The Nokia Lumia 730 is priced Rs 14,950

The Nokia Lumia series has always thrown in some surprises, be it with their 41 megapixel Lumia 1020 or the feature packed Lumia Icon. This device, the Lumia 730, was introduced as the ‘selfie’ phone. Will it be miles ahead of its older cousins? Let’s take a look.

Specs: 4.7-inch (720×1280 p,  312 ppi) OLED | 1.2 Ghz quad core Snapdragon 400 processor with Windows 8.1 OS | 8 GB internal (Expandable up to 128 GB via micro SD) | 1 GB RAM | 6.7 mega pixel back camera, 5 mega pixel front camera (1080 p video recording), 1/3.4″ sensor | 2200 mAh battery

Price: Rs 14,950

Design: The phone is lightweight and sleek, weighing 130 grams with a thickness of 8.7 mm and a 4.7 inch screen. The rounded sides and the almost mirror like glazed finish make it a little precarious to hold onto, but it is not exactly a bar of soap. The power button is placed a few centimeters off the radar. I felt it was a bit too low for convenience, considering it will be the most used button on the phone. The Battery is user removable and the entire cover of the phone comes off when you want to pop in the sim or SD cards (Which I thought was pretty cool).

Performance & Battery: The device is powered by a 1.2 Ghz quad core Snapdragon and you can multitask with ease. There are built in games like Asphalt Airborne 8 and Subway Surfers. The phone handles all games available on the Window’s platform with no trouble. The 2200 mAh battery seems to provide enough juice for all that the phone has to do and also has a battery saving feature which enhances the battery life.

Camera: Now this is where phone can really score over its main competitor, the Moto G. The Carl Zeiss lens and the 1/3.4″ size sensor and 26 mm focal length on the 6.7 mega pixel rear snapper make for some fantastic pictures and with the right light conditions will give you very vivid and flawless snaps.

The phone was dubbed as the selfie phone and rightly so. The 5MP front camera enables you to take wider angle pictures and will be dope for a selfie-addict.  The different options (lenses) available in the phone- the Lumia Selfie, Nokia Camera give the user many options for the “I was here pics”. The built in filters and editing options may find little use considering the superior colour tone and clarity of the stock pictures. The only drawback is the absence of a dedicated camera button, considering that it was the main selling point of the device. Also the OS could make way for a one touch front-back camera flip button or icon.

Display: The 4.7 inch 780×1280 pixel display has a unique feature where a double tap wakes up the phone and you don’t have to always reach out for the power button. A hallmark of a good display is how dark or how black it is when the screen is turned off and this phone proves that with a jet black screen when asleep.

Verdict: This phone is a good buy for its price and if you’re okay with the Windows OS and not having all the apps an Android device would give.  The camera simply blows you away and will be a favorite with selfie addicts. The Moto G and only outscores the Lumia on built-in memory, marginally bigger screen and the perceived higher resolution camera. On the whole, this device is a good mid-range phone.

PS: Nokia should do away with the dedicated charger and provide a USB data cable in the box.
