Blass’ account has also put out image renders of the upcoming Moto X and the Moto G4 Plus. Based on the leaked images the Moto G4 Plus has a more rectangular home-button, which could possibly come with a fingerprint scanner in it. The textured back appears to be gone in the new Moto G4 design.
Rumours have suggested that Moto G4 will come in two variants, which could either be a Plus or a Turbo version. Based on Moto India’s tweets, the Moto G4 looks set to come with a better camera, and improved battery life. It could also feature support for NFC.
A Geekbench listing has also leaked full specs of the Moto G4 device, and claims it will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm chipset (presumably Snapdragon 617), 3GB RAM and will run the latest Android 6.0.1 OS. Moto G4 is expected to feature a 5.5-inch Full HD display.
For Moto, which has undergo a re-branding exercise this year, the G4 is an important smartphone. As a mid-budget device it has done exceptionally well in India, offering a solid performance and specs. In India the Rs 10,000-15,000 price band has become increasingly competitive, and according to a recent CMR report, this segment is now seeing more growth that the earlier budget segment of Rs 6,000-8000.
What the Moto G4 series offers in terms of specs and pricing will be crucial to its success in India.
