LeEco has launched its Le Max 2 in India in two variants: 4GB+32GB at Rs 22,999 and and 6GB RAM+64GB storage at Rs 29,999. Le Max 2 goes on sale on Flipkart and LeMall.com from June 28, and registrations open from June 20.
Given the price point and its Snapdragon 820 SoC, Le Max 2 will compete with Xiaomi’s Mi 5, Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe, and Moto X Style. And yes it will be a possible challenger to the upcoming OnePlus 3, which is also expected to come with the Snapdragon 820 SoC and 6GB RAM variant.
Here is how the Le Max 2 stacks up against some of the other 820 competitors in India:
Le Max 2: Le Max 2 not much has changed from the earlier versions of the smartphone, except this one has a smaller 5.7-inch 2K display. It also has a metal unibody design, the fingerprint sensor is at the back.
Le Max 2 runs the top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, clocked at 2.15 Ghz. LeEco says it is targeting the premium Samsung Galaxy S7, with Le Max 2.
Le Max 2 comes in 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM variants. The smartphone sports a 21MP rear camera with PDAF and dual-LED flash. The rear camera sensor comes with f/2.0 aperture, and supports optical image stabilisation. The front camera is an 8MP one capable of recording 1080p videos.
LeEco Le Max 2 runs eUI 5.6 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and is backed by 3,100mAh battery. The smartphone supports USB Type-C. LeEco, is providing 1 year free subscription to Le Supertainment package, which gives access to live concerts and other video content.
Xiaomi Mi 5: Xiaomi Mi 5 also comes with latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC. Xiaomi has launched only the 3GB RAM+ 32GB storage version in India.
Xiaomi Mi 5 is the smallest of the pack with its 5.15-inch Full HD display. It has a 16MP primary camera with 4-axis optical image stabilisation, and a 4MP Ultrapixel front camera.
While the smartphone ranks first in the Antutu benchmark, we did face camera and heating issues during our review. But when it comes to the general performance and design, Xiaomi Mi 5 is definitely in the top bracket. Read our full review of Xiaomi Mi 5 here.
Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe: Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe is the latest flagship from the Taiwanese technology company. It is available starting at at $499 (Rs 33,590 approx) and is expected to launch in India soon.
Zenfone 3 Deluxe has a full metal body with invisible antenna bands, a 5.7-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) Super AMOLED display and a 79 per cent screen-to-body ratio.
Zenfone 3 Deluxe runs Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 Series processor with Adreno 530 GPU, and integrated X12 LTE modem, as well as up to 6GB RAM.
ZenFone 3 Deluxe has the biggest 23MP camera with the latest Sony IMX318 image sensor, f/2.0 aperture lens, and 4-axis optical image stabilization and 4K video recording. The front camera is 8MP. Zenfone 3 Deluxe has Type-C USB chargers with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
Moto X Style: Moto X Style starts at Rs 29,999 for the 16GB version, and goes up to Rs 31,999 for the 32GB variant. It sports a 5.7-inch quad HD display and runs hexa-core 1.8 GHz Snapdragon 808 processor.
We called Moto X Style as the best by the company till date. While it has got a lot of things right, its unpredictable battery performance makes it fall short of being perfect.
Moto X Style features a 21MP rear camera and a 5MP front shooter. We further observed, the camera app is still very basic and offers the same interface from older Moto X. With a huge 21MP camera, Motorola could have done better by letting users take control of the image sensor with a Pro mode. Read our review of Moto X Style here.
OnePlus 3: While OnePlus 3 is yet to launch in India, we know it is expected to launch in the same price bracket. OnePlus 3 will be launching on June 14 via a VR launch, and the smartphone will come in six variants, based on a product listing on OppoMart.
The pricing is listed as $369 which comes to Rs 24,702. We will however have to wait for the India launch on June 15, to see how the smartphone is priced.
Rumours indicate, OnePlus 3 will ditch the iconic sandstone finish body seen in the previous two version, and instead have a metal unibody design, along with an AMOLED display. It will sport a 5.5-inch full HD screen, and runs Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor.
The smartphone will come with a 16MP rear camera, and 8MP front camera . It is expected to launch with a fingerprint scanner on the front, along with Oxygen OS base on Android 6.0.
