Xiaomi recently launched its Mi Mix 3 flagship phone in China, which comes with dual cameras at the back and front. However, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun also went on to discuss how the Mi Mix 3 had a better camera performance compared to the Huawei P20 Pro. This also prompted a response from Huawei’s CEO for Consumer Business Group Richard Yu Chengdong, who said no other smartphone maker can surpass them in the camera department.

According a report in South China Morning Post, during the Mi Mix 3 event, Lei also referred to P20 Pro’s high price, claiming, “The most expensive ones are not best.” Mi Mix 3 starts at 3,299 yuan or around $500, which is lower than Huawei P20 Pro priced at  Yuan 4988 in China. This comes to nearly $700 plus for the P20 Pro and the phone was first launched in April 2018.

In response Lei Jun’s remarks, Yu posted on social media saying “Any smartphone maker cannot surpass Huawei’s P20 Pro in a short period of time. Only we can surpass ourselves.”

Huawei P20 Pro was the first phone to sport a triple camera at the back, and continues to remain on top of the DxOMark ratings for smartphone cameras. DxOMark rates cameras, and smartphone camera performance across the board, and its ratings are widely touted by most smartphone companies.

Camera samples showcasing how their device is the best are a much used trope during phone launch event.

Incidentally in DxOMark’s ratings, Huawei P20 Pro continues to remain on top, followed by the Apple iPhone XS Max. The Mi Mix 3’s camera is number five on the list. Huawei’s latest Mate 20 Pro, which also has a triple camera is not yet on the list. Neither is the Google Pixel 3.
