Gionee has been a success in India, in some states more than the others. After a relatively quiet few quarters the company has now launched a new flagship, Gionee S6s. This another one of those devices aimed at those who just can’t get enough of their own photos, for Gionee S6s features a selfie flash.
Gionee S6s specifications: 5.5-inch full HD display | MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz | 3GB RAM+ 32GB storage | 13 MP rear camera + 8 MP front camera with LED flash | 3150 mAh battery | Android 6.0 with Amigo 3.2 UI
Price: Rs 17,999
Design & Display
Gionee S6s has a simple but effective design with a while front panel and a chrome finish rear. The SIM slots are on the left and the power and volume buttons on the right. The phone features the new Gionee logo which was unveiled the MWC in Barcelona earlier this year. The rear panel has a prominent camera with a relative small bump and a flash just below it. Below this is the fingerprint scanner.
The phone features a 5.5-inch Full HD IPC panel with 2.5D curved edge glass which is becoming very popular among manufacturers these days. This display is also very bright and well under sunlight.
Gionee S6s features a 13MP rear camera. Our first impression is that the camera is quite good, though the images appear a bit too sharp. The camera app offers quick access to HRD as well as a bunch of other presets.
However, the USP of this phone is the 8MP selfie camera, which comes with a flash. The camera app offers you the beauty photo option right away so that you can click a selfie and gloat over how beautiful you don’t look. If the over processed images can’t make you feel happy then there are a bunch of flash options that will make your skin glow. There is a steady light option from the front flash as well as a screen flash option, both adding some weight to your selfie.

Performance and UI
The first thing you note with the phone is that it has a really fast fingerprint scanner. There is also a Story Locker wallpaper that gives you inspirational quotes right on the lock screen. The Amigo 3.2 UI is based on Android 6.0 and seems to be veering closer to pure Android with its newer version. There is no app draw again and everything is added to your homescreen.
Gionee S6s features an octa-core 1.3MHz MediaTek MT6753 processor which seems up to most tasks thrown at it. We did not have issues with multitasking, though there was a hint of heating at times. The phone offers 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage out of which only about 24GB is available for the user.
The 3150mAh battery should be able to offer about 12 hours of juice. However, with the power saver mode on you can ensure that you will come home with some battery left despite the hectic day. We will give you more details of the battery in our full review.
At the moment, Gionee S6s seems like a straightforward phone with some likeable features. However, the Rs 17,999 price tag could be a bit too much for these features.
