Asus will launch three versions of its flagship Zenfone 2- two variants of ZE 551 ML and ZE 550 ML- in India on April 23. The Zenfone 2 ZE 551 ML model with Full HD display will be available in 4GB RAM and 2GB RAM choices while the Zenfone 2 ZE 550 ML will come with a 720p display and 2GB RAM.
On the hardware front, Zenfone 2 ZE 551 ML (4GB RAM) version will run on a 2.3 GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor while both 2GB versions will run on a 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3560 CPU. Other features of the different variants are same. All the models will offer dual SIM card slots with support for 4G. We are expecting the new Zenfone 2 smartphones to be priced between Rs 11,999 and Rs 18,999.
On the design front, the Zenfone 2 has the curved metal look of HTC flagship phones along with rear button design of the LG. While the rear might appear to be made of metal, it’s actually plastic with a brushed metallic finish. Just below the lens, the volume rocker keys are placed (like in LG G3 or others) but the power/wake button on top. . The rear panel hides the SIM and microSD card slots and is removable but the battery is non-removable. The device feels a bit heavy but it is compact and the build quality is solid.
The display quality of the Zenfone 2 is good. The viewing angles appeared decent. The Zenfone 2 boasts about superior camera performance. It might be too early to comment, but the images appeared a bit grainy in low lighting conditions. Asus has introduced panaroma selfies along with other software features in the camera interface. During the brief hands-on, it appeared that the device was pretty smooth. The ZenUI offers a range of useful functionalities. Overall, the Zenfone 2 is promising and a lot depends on the pricing of the new devices.
