Will India find the Rs 58,300 price tag too much? Will India find the Rs 58,300 price tag too much?

Samsung is taking the battle to Apple and Sony this season with its latest flagship, the Galaxy Note 4. First shown at the IFA 2014 in Berlin the Note 4 will sell here at Rs 58,300 from October 17, the very day the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will hit the stands. In our books, the other big flagship competitors this Diwali will be the Sony Xperia Z3 with its great camera, battery life and waterproofing, as well as the new workhorse from BlackBerry, the Passport.

The Note 4 has some clear USPs. For one, it has a Quad HD screen which is among the best in the market. It is good enough for Samsung to launch a new segment, the Gear VR, based purely on the screen’s abilities. It is also large enough to let you have a multi-window option and responds well to the S Pen.

The S-Pen as always is the one feature that only Note excels in at the moment. It is the most functional stylus in the market and there is no other phones that let you use a stylus with the ease of the Note 4. It now comes with better pressure sensitivity giving an experience as close to actual pen and paper as possible.

The Galaxy Note 4 also comes with smart charging that lets you charge till 50 per cent in 30 minutes. Also, the battery gives more despite the screen being more resource intensive. The phone will come with Swarovski covers for those who like a little bit of bling. There are stylish covers and even a stylus from Mont Blanc, but they are not coming to India now.

On the flip side, the Note 4 is among the costliest phones in the market at the moment, pipped only by certain versions of the new iPhone 6 Plus. However, that has never been a factor for Samsung’s sales.

In our books the better phone is the Galaxy Note Edge, but sadly this smartphone with the curved screen is not coming to India at the moment.
