Coolpad is set to launch a selfie-centric smartphone in India. The company has already sent out invites for a media event on August 10. The invite says, “Believe in your #Selfie.” The invite is a clear indication the company wants to join the selfie-centric smartphone trend that is gripping the Indian smartphone market. Oppo has a series of smartphones, namely F1, F1 Plus and F1s which it calls the ‘selfie-experts’. Sony, today, launched XA Ultra with a focus on front or selfie camera. The Xperia XA Ultra packs a 16MP front camera and 21.5MP back camera.
Coolpad recently announced Max smartphone in India at Rs 24,999. The USP of the smartphone is its ‘Dual in One’ feature, which offers separate space for professional and personal data. Coolpad claims this offers better security for user data. Coolpad offers data encryption by default with dual isolation technology.
Coolpad’s Note 3 Lite was one of the cheapest smartphones to feature a fingerprint scanner. At Rs 6,999, the smartphone comes with a 5-inch 720p HD IPS display and runs Android 5.1-based Cool UI. Now, with Coolpad entering the selfie smartphone segment, the competition is likely to get intense. We will have wait and watch how the Coolpad selfie smartphone is priced, given most such phones in the category are priced above Rs 20,000.
