Coolpad Mega 2.5D, a selfie centric smartphone has been launched in India at Rs 6,999. The USP of the smartphone is its 8MP front camera, which has a wide 83.6 degree field of view and f/2.2 aperture. It comes with Smart Beautification mode that customises selfies and detect a user’s age automatically. Coolpad Mega 2.5D is Amazon exclusive in India, and will go on its first sale on August 24.
Coolpad is going for a flash sale model with this smartphone, and registrations will open from today at 5 pm on Amazon India.
Coolpad Mega 2.5D features a 5.5-inch HD IPS screen with a pixel density of 294ppi. The smartphone has a metal frames and 2.5D curved glass. The rear camera is also 8MP with Sony image sensor and auto focus. It is powered by 1GHz quad core Mediatek MT6735P processor with Mali T720 GPU. There’s 3GB RAM on board and 16GB internal memory (expandable up to 32Gb) via microSD card.
Coolpad Mega 2.5D runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow on top on Cool UI 8.0. Coolpad has brought a host of new features like Screenshot 2.0 and Slide-up to Cool UI. The battery is 2,500mAH and Coolpad promises 20 hours of standby time, and 9 hours of talk time. The dual-SIM smartphone is 4G VoLTE enabled.
Selfie-centric smartphones are a new trend in the Indian smartphone market right now. Chinese smartphone maker Oppo launched selfie smartphones before with Oppo F1 series, which has 16MP front cameras. The Oppo F1s costs Rs 17,990, and the F1 Plus is priced at Rs 26,990. Also there’s Sony, which recently unveiled XA Ultra that has a 16MP front camera, and is priced at Rs 29,990. So technically Coolpad is the one of the first players in India to launch a budget device with a focus on the selfie camera.
