Bellabeat, a San Francisco-based tech-startup, has launched a new line-up of Leaf, its wearable aimed at women. Leaf can be worn as a pendant, a bracelet or a clipped to shirts or pants.
BeallBeat claims to have already sold 40,000 pieces of Leaf and now the wearable, which is shaped like a Leaf, will come in silver and rose gold colour options. Like other wearables, LEAF also has its own app where it shows the data collected from the device.
“So far, we have collected over 16,000 hours of breathing, 4,352,231 hours of sleep, 11,429,400 hours of activity, and around 180,000,000 period logs generated by our users. This user data lets us improve the firmware of the LEAF and the algorithms behind the LEAF app, allowing us to give personalized insights and customized advice to our users,” says Sandro Mur, Bellabeat CEO in a press statement.
A new feature in the Leaf wearable will let users manually switch between different activities such as running, swimming, cycling, yoga, tennis and it will give a wider view on calories burnt.
Leaf will now also track breathing during “periods of restless sleep” and according to the company this will “help the user better understand why such periods occur in the first place”.
The device and the app will create a “correlation between sleep, activity, breathing and menstrual cycle, which allows the app to generate customized data backed advice cards.”
Other features that Leaf offers are:
1) Measuring sleep include hours, percentage quality of light and deep sleep.
2) Activity tracker which measures daily movement, calories burnt, lets users set goals, etc.
3) Leaf also monitors reproductive health and helps women identify ovulation cycles, etc.
4) Stress reduction with breathing exercises.
5) Set reminders for taking pills, buying tampons, wake-up alarms, etc.
Bella said that the waiting list for the third batch is some 200,000 strong. The limited edition Leaf cost $250, the regular Leaf is priced at $115. Interested customers have to sign up for a wait list on the Bellabeat website here.
