Google is adding support for Netflix and Google Photos on Home. Google Home users could only cast YouTube videos to their Chromecast devices until now. However, with the new integration, users can now cast Netflix and browse through their Google Photos as well. To starts using the new app, you need to be on have the latest Google app v6.9 and connect your accounts to Google Home. You can upgrade to the latest Home app from the Play Store.
For Google Photos to work with Google Home, go to the Home app and then open Devices. Next, click on Home. Now go to Settings, where you’ll find a More option. Now select Videos and Photos. All you have to do now is select the account you want to use for Google Photos. Trying to link Netflix to Google Home will take you to a log-in page.
According to Android Police, the integration of Netflix is still work in progress. The report points out that you need to specify which screen to cast to while giving commands to Netflix. Also, you can’t tell Google Home to play specific shows from Netflix for now. “Netflix is a bit finicky about how you phrase things (and you can’t call out specific episodes yet),” the report said. The site has put out a list of commands that you can use while using Netflix on Google Home. As far as Google Photos go, you can search for pictures based on location, time period or photos of specific things.
Google earlier announced Google Assistant on Home will support third-party developer apps with ‘Actions on Google’. The API (application programming interface) for ‘Actions’ is out officially and will let developers create custom commands in order to interact with users of the Google Home device, which is powered by the Assistant. The Google Assistant API comes at a time when smart home devices like Amazon’s Echo powered by its Alexa assistant, and Google Home are seen as the future.
