Asus may be ready to launch a new smartwatch, the ZenWatch 3 at IFA 2016 in Berlin on August 31. If the leaked images of the device are to be considered true, it will be the first Asus smartwatch that will feature a round dial. The previous versions of the smartwatch featured rectangular designs. The watch will however not feature a standalone cellular connection as per reports.
The original ZenWatch was launched in 2014, and was compatible with all Android phones running v4.3 or higher. The device featured 512MB memory, 4GB storage and a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display, with a 369 mAh battery. ZenWatch 2 was launched in 2015, and featured similar hardware to the first ZenWatch, and came in three colour variants. The watch is expected to support Bluetooth 4.2, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. The device is also said to support fast charging. The leaked images show three buttons on the right hand side of the watch for accessing the functions, and the device looks a little and thick.
This year however, the ZenWatch 3 might bring a major change to the ZenWatch line with its circular design, according to numerous rumours and leaks on the web. Watches with circular forms like the Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 and the Motorola Moto 360 have had some success with the audience, while the best selling smartwatch – Apple Watch, sports a rectangular design like the previous generation Asus smartwatches. Asus has however not given any official statement about the watch.
Samsung’s invite to the IFA 2016 shows clock hands, suggesting that the company might be unveiling its Gear S3 smartwatch at its press conference. The Samsung Gear S3 is rumoured to come in three variants – Classic, Frontier and Explorer.
