Amazon, which seems to be expanding its Dash Button, has announced the AWS IoT (Amazon Web Services Internet of Things) for developers. The AWS IoT is a customisable button that can be used to order products from more than 100 brands with a single tap.
The e-commerce giant launched the Dash Button last year, which allows users to order Amazon products and get them delivered automatically, simply by pressing the button. Now, Amazon wants developers to play around with new AWS IoT button, code the button’s logic to customise and find new use cases to it.
“Connect it to things we haven’t even thought of yet. We can’t wait to see what you will build with the AWS IoT Button,” Amazon says.
Amazon AWS IoT Button is available for developers with active AWS accounts at $20, says Tech Times. According to Amazon, users can code the button’s logic in the cloud to configure button clicks to count or track items, call or alert someone, start or stop something, order services, or even provide feedback.
“For example, you can click the button to unlock or start a car, open your garage door, call a cab, call your spouse or a customer service representative, track the use of common household chores, medications or products, or remotely control your home appliances.” The button can also be integrated with third-party APIs like Twitter, Facebook, Twilio, Slack etc.
While the original Dash Button is priced at $5, the AWS IoT is available at a significantly higher price. We will have to wait and see how it can be put to a more efficient usage.
