Google plans to revamp its Assistant with ChatGPT-like generative AI capabilities. According to a report by Axios, a leaked internal e-mail sent to the employees suggests that the search giant is currently focusing on overhauling the mobile version of Google Assistant with the help of generative AI technology, similar to the ChatGPT and the company’s own Bard.
According to the e-mail, Google is working on supercharging the Assistant with large language model (LLM) technology, which is likely to help the company to further enhance the product experience. This update comes right after Amazon’s latest initiative to revamp the Alexa smart devices with generative AI technology.
The new approach from Google towards its Assistant is said to affect both consumers and developers drastically. The report also indicates that Google has started reshuffling the team and has laid off some resources who previously worked on Google Assistant.
Google Assistant is currently using AI to deliver features like Google Lens for image recognition, live translation, and to deliver digital shopping experiences. With the backing of LLM, Google will be able to offer more features and capabilities to its users across connected devices like smartphones, speakers, smartwatches, cars, and televisions.
Generative AI, powered by LLM is the current trend in the tech space, where, big companies like Google and Microsoft are incorporating these technologies into several products. While Google has its own model, Bard, Microsoft has partnered with OpenAI to incorporate generative AI into its Edge browser, Microsoft Office, and Azure cloud services.
