What is Google AI Studio?
Firstly, to understand Google AI studio, you can think of it as Google all-in-one playground to experiment with AI. Be it conceptualising ideas, generating images, test video creation, or embedding Gemini into apps, Google AI Studio is a platform that is designed to make each of these processes easy to follow and intuitive.
There are four main pillars of Google AI Studio – Chat which is conversing with Gemini AI; Stream meaning real-time AI interactions; Generate Media which is creating images, videos from text; and Build which stands for developing apps and websites with AI integration. Here’s a breakdown of each of these features.
Chat: Google’s version of ChatGPT
This is the part where most people start using the AI studio. Similar to ChatGPT, users can simply type a question or prompt and Gemini generates a response. For example: “How do I cook frozen chicken?” – Gemini will offer step-by-step cooking instructions.
Similarly for a prompt “Give me 10 clickbait article headlines about losing weight instantly,” the chatbot will instantly output a list of catchy headlines. Chat in Google AI Studio is more versatile as it has multi-modal input meaning you can upload files (docs or images) and ask for summaries; record audio commands; paste YouTube links to get instant video summaries; it also has the URL context feature that allows you to get concise summaries of articles by simply pasting the URL. This essentially makes Gemini more than a text chatbot. It can be your ultimate productivity hub for summarisation, idea generation, and knowledge extraction.
Stream, for real-time AI help
This has to be one of Google AI Studio’s most innovative features. Users no longer need to wait for an entire response, instead they can see Gemini generating answers live word by word offering a natural conversational feel. This can be great while writing scripts, tutorials, or stories; or while using screen share for live assistance; asking for help with software like website builders, video, editors or coding tools.
Additionally, with Gemini Live, users can talk to AI using the microphone on the device, share their webcam, or stream desktop. This is like getting step-by-step guidance on setting up an email account, editing video footage, or running a social media campaign as the AI explains the same in real time. All of this makes the AI studio your virtual co-pilot for hands-on task.
Generate images and videos with Gemini
The Generate Media tab is where you can test Gemini’s creative side. This allows users to transform their descriptive prompts into images or videos. You can create high-resolution fantasy images with Gemini.

Video generation

The output options include aspect ratio (16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for TikTok), resolution, frame rate, and even negative prompts (to exclude unwanted elements). Although Veo 2 does not support audio, Veo 3 which will roll out soon will have sound capabilities allowing users to make even more immersive videos.
Build: To generate full Apps
The Build tab in Google AI studio allows the creation of working applications and websites powered by Gemini. You can create chatbots that can double up as agents to handle customer queries, generate websites, or even tools that can be deployed on live URL via Google Cloud Run.
The feature lets users preview, hide code, or export the app. Setting up on your own domain may be harder than with tools like Hostinger Horizons or 10Web, however, it is still great for quickly testing ideas.
